Island Trees Girls' Soccer Falls to North Shore

ITHS girls' varsity soccer broke their undefeated record Tuesday, losing to North Shore 2-0.

Five games into a successful season, Island Trees girls' varsity soccer is no longer undefeated.

After the game was moved from North Shore High School to Island Trees High School's turf field due to the damp weather, the Lady Dawgs came up two goals short, losing 2-0.

Island Trees kept up with their opponent in the scoreless first half, battling to keep the ball in their control as much as possible.

They continued to fight in the second half, threatening to score many times, but never quite made it into the net. By the end of the game, the Lady Dawgs had taken 15 shots on goal.

North Shore found its power early into the second half, when Melissa Hart kicked one past goalie Brianna Ferrara with an assist from Amanda Johansen.

Johansen had her second assist not long after, when Jackie Gioia made the score 2-0 in favor of North Shore.

In spite of the loss, Island Trees Coach Andy Schneider stayed positive.

"Our defense is our strength," he said. "They keep us in games."

Up until this game, the Lady Dawgs had only allowed two goals against them in the season. Ferrara had six  saves against North Shore.

"They made a couple more plays than us; they were a little more aggressive," said Schneider of North Shore, who now have four wins and one tie on their record.

Next, the Lady Dawgs will take on Valley Stream North for the second time this season. The game will take place at Mitchell Field Stadium at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 7.

Island Trees beat Valley Stream North 1-0 earlier in the season.

"We played very well last time," said Schneider. "Hopefully we can bounce back."
