Each summer, the Levittown Youth Council, supervised by Mr. Kevin Regan, provides the local school districts with sports programs for the children of Levittown. The children are given an opportunity to either experience or sharpen their skills at one of the many programs offered.

Stokes Fourth Graders Recycle
Ms. Meyerowitz and Mr. Flynn’s fourth grade classes at the Michael F. Stokes Elementary School collected plastic bottle caps for the “Recycle Caps with Aveda” campaign.
Students learned most bottle caps end up as litter or trash that migrates into our rivers and oceans (instead of getting recycled). This becomes a hazard for animals that mistake them for food and often leads to tragic results.
With the help of many other classes in the building, the students collected forty-six pounds of bottle caps to send to Aveda. Their collection will be used to create new caps for various kinds of beauty products. The children now understand that every little thing you do helps protect our earth.
Plans for Two-Day Kingergarten Orientation
The Island Trees school district will have two separate days of orientation for incoming kindergarteners and their families.
On Tuesday, August 31, kindergarteners and families are invited to an introduction to the school bus, which will include a short ride around the neighborhood. The times vary by the first letter of the kindergartener's last name. Children with last names beginning with A-F should arrive at 9am; children with last names beginning with G-M should arrive at 9:30am; and children with last names beginning with N-Z should arrive at 10am.
On Thursday, September 1, students will get a chance to meet the kindergarten teachers and tour kindergarten classrooms. At this meeting, parents will also be able to drop off their children's school supplies, and The Kissing Hand, a classic children's story, will be read. Mrs. Condela, Mrs. Conklin, Mrs. Grillo, Mrs. Saporito and Mrs. Minotto will be part of the first session at 12:30pm, while Mrs. Kern, Mrs. Leva, Mrs. Levitz and Mrs. Springer will be part of the second session at 2pm.
