ITHS Writers Recognized for Their Talents

A number of ITHS students were recently recognized for their creative writing talents. Senior Alyssa Pascual was a National Council for Teachers of English Contest winner. Juniors Marissa Wetzel, Melissa Rorech and Mehack Ali won the Library of Congress Poetry Contest.  Juniors Melissa Rorech and Sophomores Rosa Ardezzone, Joe Falco, Sean Murphy, Jocelyn Serrano, and Zachary Milack won the Creative Communications Poetry Contest.  Junior Marianna Ferraro was the Island Trees PTSA Reflections Contest winner.

Science Olympiads at Regionals

The Island Trees Science Olympiad team, coached by Mrs. Marie Hesekiel and Mrs. Mary Kiernan, successfully competed in the Regional Science Olympiad Competition in February at Kellenberg High School.  The Island Trees team placed 15 out of 72 teams in the region.  Ryan Goepfert and Sean Murphy distinguished themselves by finishing in second place medal in the “Optics” competition.

Mrs. Poppe's Class Food Drive

Mrs. Poppe’s class sponsored a food drive at Stokes Elementary School. The class collected 264 jars of peanut butter and jelly jars for her Spread the Love endeavor. In addition, the class helped collect a number of other food items for needy families. The donations were delivered to local food pantries in the Island Trees area.
