The group works to help victims of violence throughout Long Island communities.

NASSAU COUNTY, NY — The Safe Center of Long Island, a nonprofit that provides services for survivors of violence in Nassau County, has appointed former Nassau County Executive Laura Curran and Dr. Rachelle Scott to its board of directors.

“We are thrilled to welcome two accomplished women who are equally dedicated to our mission of providing support and services to survivors of domestic and other forms of interpersonal violence and abuse,” said Cindy Scott, executive director of The Safe Center. “As we continue to grow the scope of our outreach and education, we know that adding leadership like this will help our work in helping those in our society who need it the most.”

Curran served as Nassau County executive from 2018 to 2021 and was the first woman to hold the office. Prior to that, Curran served two terms as a Nassau County legislator. She also served on the Baldwin School Board from 2010 to 2014, holding positions of board president and trustee.
