LEVITTOWN, NY. — Wednesday night’s Board of Education meeting had its own flavor, as leaders of the Levittown Council of PTAs and members of its Food Services Committee were recognized by the board for their hard work.

Each officer from the Council of PTAs and the unit presidents from each school’s PTA was presented with a certificate, with superintendent Todd Winch noting that it, “our PTAs go beyond running well” and highlighting the amount of time these organizations take to run effectively.

“Our PTA members and food service volunteers work behind the scenes to make so many wonderful things happen for our students,” Winch said. “Our schools are better because they are part of it.”

In addition to food service, a committee made up of volunteers from each school’s PTA, Winch said PTA leaders put in no small amount of volunteer hours to run events and support the districts. In the Food Service Committee’s case, Winch said that volunteer work comes in the form of monitoring breakfast and lunch programs in Levittown schools and work with Chartwells, the district’s food service company.

The food service work, Winch said, “works to ensure the best possible breakfast and lunch experience for students,” noting the variety of options available to Levittown’s kids thanks to that committee. .
