Levittown Comes Through for Tornado Victims
Community members donate goods for those in need in Joplin, Missouri.
An impromptu effort to collect donations of clothes, linens, bedding and non-perishable foods for the victims of the recent tornado in Joplin, Missouri exhibited the "stuff" Levittown and Island Trees residents are made of.
A truckload of donations was collected and will be sorted this week for delivery to those who lost their homes and belongings in recent weeks.
The effort was the idea of Gina Interdonato, who got the word out through Levittown and Island Trees school districts, PTAs, the Levittown Kiwanis Club and the Levittown Community Council and asked those groups to spread the word to their memberships. Donations were collected in a truck loaned by the Levittown School District during and after the Memorial Day Parade on Monday.
