Levittown School Officials Pick Valedictorians And Salutatorians

Emily Zhang, Matthew Fioretti, Colin Muessig, and Nikhil Keer have been named for 2021.

LEVITTOWN, NY — Levittown School District officials announce the 2021 valedictorians and salutatorians for Division Avenue High School and General Douglas MacArthur High School on Tuesday.

Nikhil Keer was named valedictorian and Colin Muessig salutatorian at Division Avenue High School, and at General Douglas MacArthur High School, Emily Zhang was named valedictorian and Matthew Fioretti salutatorian. The four seniors “have made their mark both academically in the classroom and throughout their school communities,” district officials stated in a news release.

Keer, who has a grade point average of 105 and has achieved many academic accolades throughout his high school career, was named an Advanced Placement Scholar with Distinction, an AP Capstone Diploma recipient, and is a National Merit Scholarship Commended Student. He is also a 2021 U.S. Presidential Scholar Program nominee and is the president of the school’s DECA Club and the Science Olympiad Club.

Officials described him as a “valuable” member of the Mathletes club. Keer, who is also a peer leader and a Levittown DoSomething Club member where he participates in social change and civic action campaigns, is interested in pursuing a career in Physics to become a research scientist.

Muessig, who has a GPA of 104, was recognized as an AP Scholar with Honor for his “impressive AP exam scores,” officials said. He is an active member of Science Olympiad club and participated in regional competitions while in Mathletes Club and is a member of the school’s National Honor Society, Rho Kappa Social Studies Honor Society and Mu Alpha Theta Math Honor Society.

Zhang, who holds a GPA of 104.07, has garnered many honors and awards during her high school career, such as All-County and New York All-State honors from the Nassau Music Educators Association and the New York State School Music Association, officials said.

She is an active member of the Levittown and MacArthur communities, serving in many organizations such the school’s Environmental and Mathletes clubs, the National Honor Society, pit orchestra, Tri-M Music Honor Society, Quiz Bowl team and the varsity badminton team.

Zhang also serves as the president of MacArthur’s Science Olympiad club and “she has taken her love for science” to the Garcia Summer Research Program at Stony Brook University where she has participated in virtual research, officials said. She plans to major in bio-medical engineering after graduation.

Fioretti, who has a GPA of 104, was described by officials as an “impressive student.”

He was recently selected as a National Merit Scholarship Commended Student for his exceptional score on the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test and is also “heavily involved” at the high school.

Fioretti, an active participant in the school’s Mathletes and Key clubs and Quiz Bowl team, is a baseball player for the South Shore Elite Organization. District officials also described him as a “valuable member” of the school’s business, math and national honor societies. He plans to study bio-medical engineering or economics in college.
