The special evening celebrates community members who helped make Levittown a better place.
From Levittown Schools: Members of the Levittown community gathered together in celebration onApril 3 for the Levittown Public Schools’ annual Community Service and Hall of Fame Recognition Night. Held at Levittown Memorial Education Center, the special event recognizes members from various local organizations for their role in making Levittown a better place.
Directed by Lisa Levenberg, General Douglas MacArthur High School’s acapella group, MacApella, kicked off the evening with a patriotic performance. This followed with guests receiving a three-course meal prepared and served by culinary students enrolled in Levittown’s Gerald R. Claps Career and Technical Center. Under the direction of Chef Lauren Reganato and Lillian Creedon, attendees enjoyed a salad among their menu items, organically grown from the school’s greenhouse. Assistant Superintendent for Instruction Todd Winch opened the ceremony by introducing special guests such as Superintendent of Schools Dr. Tonie McDonald, the Levittown Board of Education, local politicians and more. Before the recognitions took place, Mr. Winch spoke about the importance of community and how each honoree is a valuable member of Levittown.
“The individuals that we have come together to recognize tonight exemplify the greatness of Levittown,” he said. “At the same time, we are also honoring those who have graduated from our schools and have gone on to provide all of us with examples of what ‘Success for Every Student’ really means.” Thirteen alumni from the Levittown Public Schools were recognized as Hall of Fame honorees. Inductees included Deborah Aviles, Eve R. Berg, James Chenevey, Thomas Hutchinson, Steve Israel, Douglas Karpiloff, Holmes Sterling Morrison, John Nixon, Larry Quinn, Barry Steinberg, William Tierney, Maureen Tucker and Len Wein.
