Levittown Student Receives Prestigious Rensselaer Medal

MacArthur High School senior named a Rensselaer medalist for her outstanding accomplishments in mathematics and science.

MacArthur High School senior Sabrina Chasen was named a Rensselaer medalist for her outstanding accomplishments in mathematics and science.

Chasen will receive a $15,000 per year merit scholarship if she decides to enroll at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute.

During the course of the summer, Chasen studied alternative energies under the tutelage of Brookhaven National Laboratory scientists Dr. Nii Ofei Mante and Dr. Thomas Butcher. She presented her findings on the impact of bio-fuels on home heating equipment to BNL scientists and graduate students.

Chasen is a science research student under the direction of teachers Dr. David Friedman and Matthew Zausin, and was recently named an Advanced Placement Scholar with Distinction.
