Levittown's Jeremiah Titone to Star in 'Godspell'

The home schooled tenth grader will take the lead in Sacred Heart Academy's production, opening tonight.

Levittown resident Jeremiah Titone will take to the stage tonight as one of the leads in Sacred Heart Academy’s production of "Godspell", a production which will serve to commemorate the decade anniversary of Sept. 11 .

“Each cast member brings a unique portrayal of their character and blends well with all the other cast members,” said Mary White, director of music at Sacred Heart Academy and facilitator of the production. “You’ll see this interaction in the production.”

The Hempstead-based, all girls high school performed the show ten years ago as a response to the events of Sept. 11, 2001. In that production, the cast incorporated a song “Beautiful City” that begins with the lyrics “Out of the ruin and the rubble.”

“In choosing a show for this year, I sensed that there would be events to commemorate the tenth anniversary of 9/11 and we wanted to be among those who remembered,” says White.

Jeremiah, a tenth grader who is home schooled, will play John the Baptist in the renowned musical created by Stephen Schwartz and John-Michael Telbelak in 1970. "Godspell" opened on Broadway in 1971 and one of its most popular songs, "Day by Day", hit the charts shortly thereafter.
