LFD Responds to Smoke at Dress Barn
The problem was found to be caused by a broken HVAC unit.
The Levittown Fire Department responded to a report of smoke in the Dress Barn clothing store at 3509 Hempstead Tpke. on Sunday at 12:20 p.m.
Arriving units found an odor in the store, but no smoke condition. Ladder 621 was set up in front of the store and fire fighters checked the HVAC units on the roof.
HVAC systems use ventilation air ducts installed throughout a building that supply conditioned air to a room through diffusers. One of these units was not operating properly and was shut down. The store manager was instructed to contact their HVAC service company for repairs.
