LIPA Begins Work on Upgrading Electric System in Levittown
Upgrades on the distribution system in Levittown include replacing poles, transformers, crossarms, insulators and lightening arresters; project to be completed by early September.

The Long Island Power Authority (LIPA) has begun work to upgrade the electric delivery system which supplies 1,398 customers in Levittown.
“As part of our mission to provide highly reliable electric service to our customers, this project will reinforce the existing electrical facilities in the area to meet the increasing demand to serve customer needs,” said LIPA Chief Operating Officer Michael D. Hervey in a press release.
Upgrades on the distribution system in Levittown include replacing poles, transformers, crossarms, insulators and lightening arresters which aim to make electric service in the area more reliable by increasing the electric capacity and strengthening the circuit. In addition, these upgrades will also reduce the frequency of outages and their duration if they do occur, the release said.

The majority of the upgrades will be along Old Farm Road, Jerusalem Avenue, Hempstead Turnpike, Azalea Road, and Orchid Road. In addition to the electrical system improvements, LIPA said that crews will be doing tree trimming where necessary.
As this work is performed, residents may see crews working in the area on the side of the road. LIPA said that for your safety and the safety of our workers, please respect the work zone protection areas and use caution by driving slowly and giving them the right of way.

Customers will be notified in advance if any scheduled outages are required to safely upgrade the electric facilities. This project is scheduled be completed in early September.
