Man Assaulted Officer, Store Manager While Fleeing Arrest: Police

Police say the man was trying to use a fake ID to make a purchase, but a sharp-eyed employee found him out.

A Queens man assaulted a police officer and a store manager after his attempted larceny failed and he was arrested on Tuesday, police said.

According to police, Deshawn Webster, 24, entered PC Richard's, located at 2999 Hempstead Turnpike in Levittown, at 4:15 p.m. and presented a fake New Jersey driver's license to an employee in an attempt to buy goods with a store account. The employee discovered the account had been involved with fraudulent activity earlier in the day at a store in Greenvale, police said. They called the police.

When the officer arrived and began to question Webster, police say he tried to flee, and a struggle ensued. As the officer was trying to get Webster to stop struggling to place him under arrest, the store manager came to help, police said, and the two managed to subdue Webster.

The manager also suffered injuries to both of his knees, the back of his neck and his lower back, police said. Both were taken to a hospital for treatment.

Police say that, while Webster was in custody, they found a fake bank card on him.
