Man Scammed Elderly Man Out Of Thousands: Nassau Police

Police say he said he needed legal fees after a relative was in a crash. He was arrested him when he tried to collect the money, police say.

A Pennsylvania man was arrested on Friday after police say he scammed an elderly man out of thousands of dollars.

According to police, Henri Daniel, Jr., 25, of Allentown, Pennsylvania, contacted an 86-year-old man at his Florida home on Feb. 6 and told him that a relative was in a car crash and that he needed $8,700 for legal fees.

The man paid, and police say he was contacted by Daniel again on Feb. 7 for an additional $8,000. Police say they arrested him when he picked up the package of money in Levittown.

Daniel is charged with third- and fourth-degree grand larceny, fifth-degree conspiracy, second-degree coercion, fifth-degree criminal possession of stolen property and third-degree attempted criminal possession of stolen property. He is scheduled to be arraigned today in First District Court in Hempstead.

Police ask anyone who believes they may have been a victim of Daniel to call Nassau County Crime Stoppers at 1-800-244-TIPS. All calls will remain anonymous.
