Nassau Woman Assaulted Officer Arresting Her: Police

Police say she became abusive and combative when they tried to place her under arrest.

A Levittown woman was charged with assault after police say she injured an officer who was trying to place her under arrest Tuesday afternoon.

According to police, officers went to the Milton Avenue home of Donna Cipley, 63, to arrest her for criminal contempt. When they arrived, police say that Cipley became verbally abusive and hit a detective with a door. As the detectives tried to arrest her, police say she flailed her arms and legs, and grabbed a detective's thumb, bending it back and injuring the detective.

The detective was taken to a hospital for treatment. Cipley was taken to a hospital to be evaluated.

Cipley is charged with second-degree assault (with the intent to cause injury to a police officer) and resisting arrest. She is scheduled to be arraigned in First District Court in Hempstead on March 13.
