(Levittown) NBTY Helping Hands has sponsored the Annual Summer Picnic for Big Brothers Big Sisters of Long Island (BBBSLI) at Heckscher State Park. On Saturday, June 1 2013, NBTY Helping Hands joined BBBSLI in providing a fun-filled day of music, food and family fun for over 220 guests.
The sponsorship has enabled Big Brothers Big Sisters of Long Island to offer an eagerly anticipated, annual event for the volunteer mentors, clients and their families, free of charge.
NBTY Helping Hands has been a longtime supporter of Big Brothers Big Sisters, providing financial support and their services to the agency and their program participants. Their event sponsorship covered the cost of state park fees and permits, a DJ, an inflatable basketball game, a water blaster challenge, cotton candy, and food and beverages for all guests of BBBSLI.
“Contributing to the overall well-being of a child by providing guidance and companionship that helps them to achieve their highest potential is critically important as a member of a community,” said Michael Oliveri, Chairman of NBTY Helping Hands. “Sponsoring the picnic is a great way for NBTY Helping Hands to fulfill its wellness mission and spend time with the kids who benefit from this program while celebrating the wonderful things BBBSLI is achieving on their behalf.”

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Long Island matches children in their program who would benefit from an additional caring adult in their life with a volunteer mentor. Once matched, the Bigs and Littles get together a couple of hours a couple of times a month. Through events like this Annual Picnic, Bigs and their Littles experience different outdoor activities together, while strengthening their relationship. Most certainly, it is the consistency of our Big Brothers and Sisters that has the greatest impact on a Little’s life.
