Area is LIRR's responsibility, but is overgrown and infested with bugs and rodents.

The Town of Hempstead is calling on the Long Island Railroad to clean up a two-mile-long overgrown "zombie property" in Levittown.

According to Newsday, Hempstead Supervisor Anthony Santino said the LIRR has not taken responsibility for the property, which is overgrown with weeds and infested with vermin and insects, which are affecting the homes neighboring the property.

The LIRR owns the property. Newsday reported that the site had tracks on it, but the line was closed in the 1930s. Since then, the property as sat fallow and unattended.
