Whiz Kid: Mike Esposito

Every Friday, Levittown Patch will highlight one special kid in our area who has accomplished something great.

This week's Whiz Kid is Mike Esposito.

Name: Mike Esposito

School: Island Trees High School

Class: Senior

Accomplishments: After leading the Island Trees Bulldogs varsity football team as a captain in 2010, Mike just signed a letter of intent with Gettysburg College to play football on their squad in the fall.

Whiz Kid's Key to Awesomeness: Mike has racked up impressive stats in the field and in the classroom. He totaled approximately 300 receiving yards with the Bulldogs in the 2010 season, two touchdowns and averaged about 16 yards per catch. On defense he had 24 tackles, two interceptions (including one for a touchdown) and one blocked field goal.

In addition to being captain of his football team, he was a member of Athletes Helping Athletes, Honor Society and the Tri-M Music Honor Society. He was named a National Football Foundation and College Hall of Fame Scholar Athlete and won Male Outstanding Physical Education Student of the Year along with his twin brother.

"Mike is an absolute pleasure to have in class and on my team," said Island Trees football coach Michael Bonsignore. "He is a well-rounded and mature young man who is a true scholar-athlete. As a captain this year, Mike was an extension of me with his teammates both on and off the field."
