Woman Robbed Nassau Store, Threatened Clerk: Police

Police say Lexus Hughes was recognized by the clerk for having previously robbed the same store.

BETHPAGE, NY — A Queens woman was arrested on Friday after police say she robbed a 7-Eleven and threatened a clerk.

According to police, Lexus K. Hughes, 31, entered the 7-Eleven located at 497 Stewart Ave. in Bethpage at 10:15 a.m on July 29.

Police say a man working at the store recognized Hughes from prior shoplifting incidents. The man approached her, and police say Hughes became aggressive. Police say she pulled out a box cutter and threatened the man with it. She then took merchandise from the shelves and left the store without paying, police said.

Hughes was later located and placed under arrest without incident.

Hughes is charged with first-degree robbery, fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon and second-degree menacing. She also has an active Nassau County bench warrant. She was arraigned in First District Court in Hempstead on July 30. She was ordered held on bail of $10,000 cash or $20,000 bond, which was posted.
