11 People Arrested at Sobriety Checkpoint

The checkpoint was conducted overnight in Patchogue. One vehicle was seized, police say.

Eleven people were arrested and one vehicle was seized during an overnight sobriety checkpoint in Patchogue, police said.

Officers from the Suffolk County Highway Patrol Bureau conducted the checkpoint on the westbound Sunrise Highway service road at Waverly Avenue from 11:08 p.m. Friday until 2:23 a.m. Saturday.

Police said the checkpoint was meant to help prevent injuries and fatalities associated with driving while ability impaired by alcohol and drugs, particularly during the Labor Day holiday weekend. A total of 651 vehicles went through the checkpoint, police said.

The following people were charged with DWI:

  • Pil Young Yoo, 40, of St. James
  • Kenneth Lindsay, 60, of Central Islip
  • Richard Bocklet, 59, of Islip
  • Heather Yutesler, 35, of Patchogue
  • Emily Torrez, 21, of Islip Terrace
  • George Ghossn, 54, of East Islip
  • Leo Skorupski, 32, of Massapequa Park
  • Francine Anzalone, 55, Holbrook
  • Danny Hernandez, 53, of Patchogue

The following people were charged with driving while ability iImpaired:

  • Heriberto Gonzalez, 37, of Brentwood
  • Kristine Schultz, 35, of North Massapequa

Schultz was also charged with fifth degree criminal possession of marijuana. All of those arrested will be arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip on Saturday.

Officials have warned of a crackdown on driving and boating under the influence this weekend. The enforcement effort includes officers from the Marine Bureau, Community Support Units, Motorcycle Section, SAFE-T (Selective Alcohol Fatality Enforcement) Section as well as patrols.

“In an effort to ensure Suffolk County residents have a safe and enjoyable holiday weekend, we are asking everyone to make responsible decisions,” County Executive Steve Bellone said. “Police are taking a zero-tolerance approach with those who drink and get behind the wheel of a car or boat.”
