2 Copiague High School Students Awarded Engineering Scholarships

COPIAGUE, NY — Two Walter G. O’Connell Copiague High School students received scholarships from West Babylon-based Power Resources International in recognition of their academic achievement, leadership and community involvement.

Jocelyne Carranza Orellana and Anne DeOleo Mayorga were selected from a competitive group of applicants, according to the company.

PRI Chief Financial Officer Ellen Morelli-Ford presented the scholarship checks during the school’s awards ceremony.

Carranza Orellana participates in the STEP Club, Mindfulness Club, Yoga Club and Science National Honor Society. She also took part in Farmingdale State College’s Saturday STEP program while balancing her academics with a part-time job.

She plans to study mechanical engineering and hopes to encourage more women to pursue careers in science, technology, engineering and mathematics.

DeOleo Mayorga is involved in the National Honor Society, Robotics Team, Rotary Youth Leadership, Chess Club, Global Ambassadors, Student Ambassadors, Marching Band and the girls tennis team.

She plans to study electrical engineering with a concentration in renewable energy.

“Education is one of the most powerful investments we can make,” Morelli-Ford said. “We are proud to help Jocelyne and Anne take the next step toward their goals, and we look forward to seeing the impact they will make in the years ahead.”

Founded in 1992, Power Resources International provides hardware, software and engineering services, including automation, industrial networking and supervisory control and data acquisition systems.

PRI Chief Operating Officer Joe Morelli said supporting local students also benefits the region’s economy.
