3 Businesses Robbed At Gunpoint Across Suffolk; Suspect Arrested In Amityville: Police
Police say the suspect allegedly robbed 3 businesses over 3 days while displaying what appeared to be a handgun.
SUFFOLK COUNTY, NY — A 24-year-old man was arrested late Wednesday after allegedly robbing three businesses in Copiague, Amityville, and Farmingdale over the past several days, according to Suffolk County police.
Police said Nehemiah Byers, of Amityville, was taken into custody on Broadway in Amityville at about 9:48 p.m. Wednesday by First Precinct Anti-Crime officers, shortly after a robbery at a Farmingdale business.
Following an investigation by First Squad detectives, police said Byers was charged with three counts of first-degree robbery for incidents in which he allegedly displayed what appeared to be a handgun while demanding money from cash registers.

Police said the robberies occurred at a QuickChek on Sunrise Highway in Copiague on Sunday night, a Sunrise Variety store on Sunrise Highway in Amityville on Wednesday evening, and a BP gas station on Broadhollow Road in Farmingdale later that same night. In each case, police said the suspect fled after taking cash.
Police said Byers is also charged with resisting arrest and seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance. He was transported to a local hospital for evaluation and will be arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip at a later date.
