UPDATE: 23-Year-Old Dies From Injuries Suffered In High Speed Crash

Police are still searching for the driver of an Infiniti who fled the scene of the five-vehicle crash on foot Sunday night.

UPDATE 9 a.m. Tuesday- Pierre Prophete has died from his injuries suffered in the crash, police said. The investigation is continuing anyone with information on the crash is asked to call anonymously to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-220-TIPS or the Major Case Unit at 631-852-6555.

NORTH AMITYVILLE, NY – Four people suffered serious injuries, including a 23-year-old man who is critical condition, in a hit-and-run crash involving five vehicles in North Amityville Sunday night.

According to Suffolk Police, a 2008 BMW and a 2007 Infiniti were both traveling south on New Highway at a high rate of speed when the car sideswiped each other at about 8:30 p.m. a quarter-mile south of New Horizons Boulevard.

The BMW, being driven by 33-year-old Michael Plummer, went off the roadway and struck a fence. The Infiniti struck the rear of a 2004 Chevrolet Blazer that was traveling south on New Highway and caused the Chevrolet to overturn. The Infiniti then struck two parked vehicles in front of 475 New Highway and the driver of the Infiniti fled on foot.

Plummer, of North Amityville, was transported to Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center in West Islip with serious injuries. The driver of the Chevrolet, Junior Joachim, 32, of North Amityville, was transported with serious injuries to Nassau University Medical Center in East Meadow.

Joachim’s front seat passenger, Steve Clavin, 28, was seriously injured and Joachim’s backseat passenger, Pierre Prophete, 23, was was critically injured in the crash. They were both transported to Good Samaritan Hospital.

The investigation is continuing and police are asking anyone who witnessed the crash or stopped at the scene of the crash to call the Major Case Unit at 631-852-6553 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-220-TIPS.
