91 Rescued From Flooding At Long Island Sweet 16 Party

The high tides on Saturday night caused multiple people to become trapped at the local venue.

AMITYVILLE, NY - Firefighters rescued over 90 people at a local yacht club as well as three people who were trapped in a car in Amityville over the weekend.

With heavy rain causing rising tide waters, members of the Amityville Fire Department responded to multiple calls for help with people trapped on Saturday night.

At about 10 p.m., firefighters responded to a call of three people trapped in a car on Riverside Avenue.

Shortly after returning from first call, the firefighters responded to Unqua Yacht Club at 1 Unqua Place for 100 people trapped due to the tides.

The Copiague, Massapequa and Lindenhurst fire departments all responded to the scene as well.

It took about an hour and a half to evacuate the 91 people, who were reportedly attending a Sweet 16 party at the club.

“The reality of having to actually have a rescue team to leave my Sweet 16 is the crazy party of it all,” the guest of honor, Faith Griffin, told PIX 11.
