Albany Avenue Plants A Library, Grows Readers

The school recently received a grant for its kindergarten students for the 'Plant a Library, Grow a Reader' program.

From Lindenhurst Schools: Albany Avenue Elementary School in the Lindenhurst Union Free School District has received a grant for its kindergarten students from the Long Island Language Arts Council, “Plant a Library, Grow a Reader.”

To encourage a love of reading by “growing their own library,” each kindergarten student was presented with a book basket and selected two books of their choosing from the books provided by the grant and the administration. The young students will continue to choose a new book each month to grow their home libraries and foster a love of reading. When asked why she thought this was a good thing for her class, kindergartener Maria said, “It is very good because if you have more books, you’ll read more.”
