This December, third graders at Albany Avenue Elementary School received a special visit from the Mayor of Lindenhurst, Michael Lavorata. The visit gave students an extra opportunity to learn about local government and the way its operations affect everyday life.

The students, who are currently learning about government in the classroom, gained a deeper understanding about how the levels of government operate thanks to Mayor Lavorata’s visit. In particular, students learned the ins-and-outs of local governments such as a village like Lindenhurst. As part of the visit, Mayor Lavorata discussed his responsibilities and duties as mayor, and students had the opportunity to ask specific questions about the village and the mayor’s role in leadership. Together, they talked about how local governments help make a community a safe and orderly place where citizens and work and live together.
