Alleged Gang Member Sentenced For Fatal LI Shooting: Report

The 28-year-old was arrested in connection to the murder of 25-year-old Herminio Torres outside a local nightclub, police say.

LINDENHURST, NY - An alleged gang member from Huntington Station was sentenced to prison this week for a fatal shooting at a Lindenhurst nightclub last year, according to a report in Newsday.

Hector Gonzalez, 28, was arrested in connection to the murder of 25-year-old Herminio Torres, of Elizabeth, NJ, Suffolk police said.

Gonzalez, an alleged member of the Latin Kings street gang, was arraigned in May in Suffolk County Court on a charge of second degree murder, according to the Suffolk County District Attorney.

On March 31, two people were shot and three others were stabbed during a fight at 105 Grados on 105 Sunrise Highway, police said.

According to police, the altercation started inside and continued outside the club. During the fight, two men were shot and three men were stabbed.

Torres was transported by the Lindenhurst Fire Department to Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center in West Islip where he was pronounced dead.

The second shooting victim, 26, self-transported to an area hospital and was subsequently transported to another hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.

A 23-year-old man was stabbed and transported to an area hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries. Two other men who were stabbed, ages 28 and 35, were transported to local hospitals where they were treated and released.

Gonzalez was arrested previously in February along with two Huntington Station men after threatening a store clerk with an illegal loaded handgun, according to a previous Patch article.

In January, he pleaded guilty to a lesser charge of first-degree manslaughter and now faces 15 years in prison, Newsday reports.
