Amityville Deli Shut Down Over 29 Code Violations

In addition, six people were arrested during a State Liquor Authority Inspection at the local deli Thursday night, police said.

AMITYVILLE, NY — An Amityville deli was shut down and six people were arrested during a New York State Liquor Authority Inspection Thursday night, according to Suffolk Police.

Officers, along with the Town of Babylon Deputy Commissioner of Public Safety, Town of Babylon Fire Marshal, Town of Babylon Building Inspector, and the Town of Babylon Code Enforcement officials, conducted a SLA Inspection at Los Primitos Deli & Grocery on 225 Albany Avenue at 10:18 p.m.

According to police, the following people were arrested following the inspection:

  • Maria Bonilla, 45, of Mastic Beach, a manager of deli, was charged with promoting gambling, possession of gambling devices, three counts of ABC Law off premise beer/allowing consumption of beer on premise, two counts of ABC Law disorderly premise, ABC Law no gambling on premises, and ABC Law prohibited sale.
  • Modesto Hernandez, 65, of Copiague, a patron of the deli, was charged with fifth degree criminal possession of a controlled substance.
  • Leny Gomez, 34, of Amityville, a patron of the deli, was charged with seventh degree criminal possession of a controlled substance (cocaine).
  • Edgar Garcia, 36, of Amityville, a patron of the deli, was charged with seventh degree criminal possession of a controlled substance.
  • Sarbelio Alexander Bautistanieto, 28, of Amityville, a patron of the deli, was charged with seventh degree criminal possession of a controlled substance (cocaine).
  • Edwin Melara, 42, from Massapequa, a patron of the deli, was charged with a warrant.

The Town of Babylon Quality of Life Task Force also issued 29 building, fire and code violations to the manager, police said. As a result of the violations, the establishment was condemned and closed.
