LINDENHURST, NY — Lindenhurst High School hosted its inaugural Special Games on April 23, bringing together approximately 160 students from the district’s life skills programs for a day centered on inclusion, athletic competition, and personal growth.
The event featured students enrolled in the district’s 8:1 and 10:1 programs, who took part in a range of activities designed to promote teamwork, sportsmanship and self-confidence. The games provided an opportunity for students of varying abilities to engage in friendly competition while being supported by peers, staff and families.
Melville-based Verra Mobility served as a sponsor for the event, providing lunch and refreshments for participants, their families, and school staff. The partnership helped ensure the day remained focused on celebration, accessibility, and community support.
District officials said the Special Games reflect an ongoing effort to create inclusive opportunities for all students, emphasizing physical activity, social development, and confidence-building in a supportive environment.
The event marked a milestone for Lindenhurst schools, highlighting a broader commitment to programs that empower students with diverse learning needs through meaningful, engaging experiences.
