The event focused on educating parents and caregivers about water supervision, swim education and emergency preparedness.

“Drowning can happen in a matter of seconds, but it is largely preventable,” McSweeney said. “By educating parents and caregivers and reinforcing the importance of constant supervision, we can help keep our children safe all summer long.”

Drowning remains one of the leading causes of accidental death among young children, officials said. Speakers emphasized the importance of active supervision, enrolling children in swim lessons and being prepared to respond quickly during emergencies.

“As we head into the summer season, taking simple precautions can save lives,” Martinez said. “This event provided parents and caregivers with the tools and information they need to help keep children safe around water.”
