Bay Shore Man Stabbed 65-Year-Old In Neck At LI Church: Police

A 65-year-old man suffered serious injuries after he was stabbed in the neck during a meeting at an Amityville church, police said.

AMITYVILLE, NY — A Bay Shore man was arrested after police said he stabbed a 65-year-old man in the neck during a meeting at an Amityville church Friday night.

Daniel Escobar, 33, stabbed the man in the basement of First United Methodist Church at 25 Broadway at about 8:30 p.m., Suffolk County police said.

Escobar then fled the scene, police said.

The victim was taken to a local hospital with serious injuries, according to police. His identity was not released.

Following an investigation by First Squad detectives, Escobar was located on Ackerson Boulevard in Bay Shore and taken into custody at 10:22 p.m., police said.

Escobar was charged with first-degree assault and held overnight at the First Precinct. He is scheduled to be arraigned Saturday at First District Court in Central Islip.
