LINDENHURST, NY — The Town of Babylon honored Lindenhurst Mayor Mike Lavorata and the Sons and Daughters of Italy's Costantino Brumidi Lodge during its annual Italian American Recognition Ceremony at Town Hall.
The ceremony, held in recognition of Italian American Heritage Month, celebrated Lavorata and the lodge for their community service and efforts to preserve Italian American history and culture.
Town Councilman Anthony Manetta presented proclamations on behalf of the Town Board. Daniel Calise, vice president of the Costantino Brumidi Lodge, accepted the recognition on behalf of the organization.
Family members, friends, lodge members and community leaders attended the ceremony in the Town Board chambers.
"Italian Americans helped build the Town of Babylon, and their influence shows up in our families, our businesses and our neighborhoods every day," Manetta said. "Mayor Lavorata has spent years serving the people of Lindenhurst, and the members of the Brumidi Lodge have made sure the traditions and history of Italian Americans get passed down to the next generation. It was an honor to recognize them, and I thank them for everything they do for our community."
