Big Homecoming Win for Lindenhurst Football

The 42-0 romp against Sachem East strengthens Bulldogs' position in playoff seedings.

The Lindenhurst Bulldogs gave fans at the Field all they could ask for and more on , putting on their most "complete" game of the season together to go 5-2 on the regular season with a 42-0 shutout of Sachem East.

“Sachem is a good team,” said Head Coach Nick Lombardo after the romp. “But we played our most complete game of the year today – our offense, our defense, our special teams all did their job. We’ve been waiting for this game to come, and now we’ve won it.”

Fans saw the Bulldogs hold Sachem to less than 70 yards for three quarters, while amassing 137 passing yards and 213 yards rushing. Lindenhurst scored touchdowns on all six of its drives of the afternoon – the first three on TD tosses for quarterback Brad Witkowski.

Two of those tosses went to Alec Wrieth, who hauled in six passes altogether for 114 yards. Kenny Skon hauled in another, and picked up 29 yards on three pass receptions.

The aerial and ground offense for the Bulldogs was also doing its share of the clicking.

In half a game’s work Witkowski finished with two TDs on 11 of 14 passing, before being replaced by Keith Meisner. Lindenhurst running back David Fowler led the way on the ground, with 65 yards on nine carries, including a TD plunge in the third quarter.

Meisner, who had a strong day on both sides of the football, picked up 37 yards of his own. Also getting some good mileage on the ground was Joe Lukralle, who had 26 yards on five carries.

With the game comfortably in hand, Coach Lombardo had an opportunity to see a number of players in action during the second half. Among those with a number of touches were Nick Mayers (22 yards rushing, one TD), Rafal Piszczatowski (two carries, 17 yards) and (2 carries, 9 yards).

Sophomore Peter Mangione impressed, as well, carrying the ball twice for 30 yards and picking up a TD – and with a crunching hit late in the game, coming across field from a safety position to break up the only Flaming Arrows drive that amounted to anything resembling a threat.

“We got a lot of kids involved,” said Lombardo. “Mangione is very athletic, and Rafal looks good. It was also good to see Nick Franco get some time in; he’s been injured.”

With the win goes 5-2 on the season with one game left against Sachem North. That’s a situation that bodes well for Bulldogs fans hoping for a post-season run.

“I think we have the number five slot locked up now,” said Lombardo. “And if we do well against Sachem North next week, then maybe that’ll be even better.”

For now, Lindenhurst fans will have to just settle for having been handed a very nice present – a 42-0 romp and – with few lapses - a clinic in good football.

On Friday night, , Lindy hosts Sachem North at the LMS Field at 6 p.m.
