Copiague Beach Closed To Bathing

A high level of bacteria was found in the waters of the beach, according to Suffolk health officials.

COPIAGUE, NY — Tanner Park Beach in Copiague has closed to swimming due to high levels of bacteria, Suffolk health officials said Friday.

Bathing in bacteria-contaminated water can result in gastrointestinal illness, as well as infections of the eyes, ears, nose, and throat, according to Suffolk County Commissioner of Health Dr. Gregson Pigott.

The beach will reopen when further testing reveals that the bacteria have subsided to acceptable levels, officials said.
