CEDAR BEACH MARINA, NY — It was a happy ending for an osprey who got trapped in a fishing line last week, according to the Department of Environmental Conservation. On Aug. 12, a concerned personal watercraft rider contacted an officer to report an osprey hanging from its nest in the State Boat Channel near the Cedar Beach Marina

The osprey had its foot wrapped in fishing line. With help from Town of Babylon Bay Constables, the officer boarded a boat to reach the nest and used a pair of shears to cut the fishing line tangled around the osprey's foot.

Once free, the osprey flew away with no signs of injury.
