Patch Readers Reunite Another Lost Pet With Its Owner

Sparky, who was lost after a Lindenhurst house fire was found safe, thanks to Lindenhurst Patch readers.

Sparky, the dog who went missing following a fire at a Lindenhurst home Thursday morning has been found safe, his family told Patch.

Sparky’s family said he was found Thursday night thanks to a Patch story after he went missing, but we are most certainly passing on the credit to the Lindenhurst community, which has proven once again that when a neighbor is in the need, Lindy residents always step up to help. Our story on Sparky, a chihuahua-terrier mix, was shared nearly 250 times on the Lindenhurst Patch Facebook page.

Sparky, who is about a year and a half old, got loose after a fire broke out in the basement of a home on 43rd Street around 11:40 a.m. No one was reported injured in the blaze, but Sparky got out through an open gate in the back yard, where firefighters had put him to keep him safe from the fire.

Sparky’s family searched the neighborhood for their pup and by late afternoon, Lindenhurst was in full find-Sparky mode.

Several people called Sparky’s family to let them know they were out looking for the dog. At 9:45 p.m, Sparky’s family got a much-wanted phone call. An employee at Copiague’s Southgate Animal Hospital said someone had dropped off a dog believed to be Sparky at the hospital.

It was Sparky and his family picked him up Friday morning.

“Sparky’s family thanks you, the Lindenhurst Patch, the community, the good Samaritan who brought Sparky to Southgate and Southgate for bringing Sparky home,” Sparky’s grateful family said.
