Fire Breaks Out At North Amityville Apartments: Police

Fire broke out at a Harrison Avenue apartment building Sunday afternoon, Suffolk police say.

NORTH AMITYVILLE, NY — A 2nd alarm fire broke out at an apartment complex in North Amityville Sunday afternoon, drawing a large response from fire departments across Suffolk and Nassau counties, according to Suffolk County police.

The call came in around 3:09 p.m. for a fire at 15 Harrison Ave., police said.

Fire officials reported flames coming from a second-floor apartment at the Harrison Garden complex, prompting a working fire and mutual aid response. A second alarm was later requested as firefighters worked to contain the blaze.

Multiple departments from both counties, including West Babylon, Lindenhurst, Amityville, East Farmingdale, South Farmingdale, Massapequa, Copiague, Wyandanch, and North Lindenhurst, responded, helping to limit the fire to a small number of units.

Rehab services were provided at the scene, and EMS units were placed on standby as operations continued under command.
No immediate injuries were reported.

The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Suffolk County Police Arson Squad, police said.
