Fourth Annual Financial Literacy Day Held at Lindenhurst High

Lindenhurst High School business students recently participated in the fourth annual Financial Literacy Day in conjunction with Teachers Federal Credit Union.

Throughout the day, community vendors – including representatives from a car dealership, Stop & Shop, real estate agency and an insurance provider, among others –worked with approximately 200 students representing all grades to educate the young adults in personal finance and help them become more responsible members of the community.

As a part of the program, students received a “paycheck” from a career they were given along with the details of their life, such as their marital status and whether or not they had children. Representatives interacted with and educated students to determine what they could afford in terms of housing, transportation, entertainment, furniture, electronics, clothing, meals and extras, based on the paycheck. Students learned that they needed to make choices based on their income.
