Homeless Man Arrested After Trying to Rob Copiague Bank: Police
BREAKING: The teller refused to handle over any cash Friday afternoon, police say.
COPIAGUE, NY – A homeless man was arrested after he tried to rob a bank in Copiague Friday afternoon, police said.
According to police, John Phillips, 56, entered the Bank of America located at 1283 Sunrise Highway and handed a teller a note demanding cash at about 2:45 p.m.
The teller did not comply and Phillips fled, police said.

First Precinct Police Officers Michael Gorey and Steven Squires responded and located Phillip a short time later, police said.
Phillips is charged with third degree attempted robbery. He will be held overnight at the First Precinct and is scheduled to be arraigned Saturday at First District Court in Central Islip.
