Lindenhurst Athletes Take to the Field in Support of Christina Renna Foundation

On Sept. 29, the Lindenhurst High School Key Club and the girls’ varsity field Hockey team came together in support of the Christina Renna Foundation. Christina Renna, a former Lindenhurst student, passed away in 2007 after her battle with rhabdomyosarcoma, a form of cancer.

“This is a special group of girls,” said coach Jessica Scheno. “They are not only dedicated to their team, but to their community. This is a small something that we can do to bring awareness to a bigger issue. It’s about showing our support.”

Donning, yellow shirts and shoelaces, the color of pediatric cancer awareness and the Christina Renna Foundation, the girls played their hearts out. On the sidelines, members of the Key Club sold baked goods in an effort to raise money.

According to the website, www.crf4acure.org, the Christina Renna Foundation is dedicated to supporting children’s cancer research and increasing the levels of awareness and education through the support of cancer groups and outreach programs for the direct support of those in need.
