Lindenhurst Beach Closed To Bathing

The local beach was shut down on Thursday due to the discovery of high levels of bacteria.

LINDENHURST, NY - A Lindenhurst beach was shut down on Thursday due to the findings of high levels of bacteria, according to the Suffolk County Department of Health.

Venetian Shores Beach is currently closed to bathing.

In addition, the following beaches remain closed to bathing due to the findings of bacterial levels in excess of acceptable criteria:

  • Lake Ronkonkoma - Islip Town Beach
  • Valley Grove Beach in Eatons Neck
  • Shirley Beach in Shirley

According to Suffolk County Commissioner of Health Dr. James Tomarken, bathing in bacteria-contaminated water can result in gastrointestinal illness, as well as infections of the eyes, ears, nose, and throat.

Beaches will reopen when further testing reveals that the bacteria have subsided to acceptable levels.
