Lindenhurst BOE Approves Tax Exemption for Veterans
Board votes unanimously to authorize the basic exemption.

In December 2013, Gov. Andrew Cuomo signed into law an expansion of the Veterans Tax Exemption that allows school districts across the state to authorize real property tax exemptions (of school taxes) for veterans who have served during times of war.
During the Nov. 19 Board of Education Community Forum at Harding Avenue Elementary School, the Lindenhurst Board of Education voted unanimously to authorize the basic exemption. This decision was based upon the community input received during a Nov. 12 workshop, school officials said.
If all of the 949 veteran households within the district claimed their basic exemption, there would be a shift in the school tax burden to non-veteran households of an additional $40 per year, or $3.33 per month, school officials said.
