Both were born and raised in Lindenhurst.
"Our story started, and we’re sure will end, in Lindenhurst," the couple wrote in a Facebook post. "This town holds a special place in our hearts as we have grown up here, we went to school where, we fell in love here, and are growing as adults here. Many of our friends and family are still in this town and we plan on raising our own here too. We couldn't think of any other place to open our brewery than in the Village of Lindenhurst."

The business began five years ago when Cooke started brewing beer in his mom's kitchen for fun. He previously worked at Greenpoint Brewery. He has also worked and traveled to dozens of breweries in the tri-state area with Iron Heart mobile canning company.
"Craft beer has been his passion for a large portion of his life, so we decided it’s time that we turn that passion and dream into reality and into a life for us," the two wrote on Facebook.
The 27a Brewing Co. tasting room will have a minimalist and welcoming vibe, using Bates' background in the fashion industry and the couple's love for all things art and music.
"Our goal is for you to forget about the crazy world we live in, all while sipping on a delicious beer or coffee," the Facebook post reads. "One thing we as a couple have in common is our eye for style and attention to detail, and that will show in the space that we will be creating for you."
The two are also very excited to be opening in Lindenhurst.
"We have seen the ups and downs of this town first hand so we are ecstatic that we will be a key part of the revitalization," they wrote on Facebook." There are many exciting things coming to Lindenhurst and we are beyond thrilled to be a part of that."
