Lindenhurst Heads Back to School

The 2014-15 school year kicked off Wednesday in Lindenhurst.

On Wednesday, the sun was shining and so were the smiles of the students and teachers who celebrated the first day of school in the Lindenhurst School District. Once again the halls were bustling with the approximately 7,000 district students, who reunited with friends, met new teachers and familiarized themselves with their surroundings.

At Daniel Street Elementary School, the students were also welcomed by crossing guard Barbara Ryan. Last school year, Daniel Street Girl Scout Troop 2342 took it upon themselves to address traffic concerns in front of the building. The girls wrote letters to the Suffolk County Police Department requesting a crossing guard. Principal Linda Domanico wrote her own letter in support of the girls’ efforts. The SCPD agreed and Ms. Ryan is now a part of the Daniel Street community.
