Lindenhurst High Science Club Takes First at Envirothon
Team competed at the Old Bethpage Village Restoration.

Members of the Lindenhurst High School science club recently won first place at the Long Island Regional Envirothon competition held at the Old Bethpage Village Restoration.
The hands-on environmental education competition requires a team of five high school students to work together in hopes of winning scholarships and awards. The teams compete in five different environmental categories (i.e., soils/land use, aquatic ecology, forestry, and wildlife) and a current environmental issue. This year’s Issue was urban forestry.
The Lindenhurst students, Tyler Hughes, Sofia Gereta, Ryan Frank, Natalie Kijek and Michelle Huang, answered questions about the aforementioned topics successfully and made a presentation on the topic of urban forestry. They did so successfully and as such they will attend the State Envirothon competition at William Hobart Smith University in Geneva, NY on May 27 -28. Each team member also received a certificate, a Field Guide to Trees and a $500 scholarship.
