Lindenhurst Man Charged With Animal Cruelty: SPCA

The man threw his 1-year-old Maltese on the ground in front of a child, Suffolk SPCA said.

LINDENHURST, NY — A Lindenhurst man was arrested and charged with animal cruelty after he threw his dog on the ground and injured its paw, Suffolk County SPCA announced on Wednesday.

Zubair Ashraf, 39, was charged with one count of animal cruelty and one count of endangering the welfare of a child for throwing his 1-year-old female Maltese dog on the ground, SCPCA said.

He did so while in front of a minor child, SPCA said.

Ashraf was taken into custody on Saturday by SPCA detectives and the Suffolk County Police Department, and arraigned on Sunday, SPCA said.

He is next due to appear in First District Court in Central Islip on April 19.
