Lindenhurst Man Convicted Of Felony Drug, Weapons Charges: DA

Suffolk County police found cocaine, heroin, and fentanyl in the 41-year-old man's possession during a 2021 traffic stop, authorities said.

SUFFOLK COUNTY, NY — A Lindenhurst man could spend up to 12 years in prison after authorities found him in possession of cocaine, heroin and fentanyl during a 2021 traffic stop.

David Marmol, 41, was convicted of two felony counts of third-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, Suffolk County District Attorney Raymond Tierney announced Saturday. He was also convicted of seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance and fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon, both class A misdemeanors.

In February 2021, Suffolk County police officers stopped Marmol near South Fifth Street and Montauk Highway in Lindenhurst for not wearing his seatbelt. He was driving a rented 2020 Ford Expedition, authorities said.

According to officials, officers smelled marijuana as they approached, prompting them to search the vehicle. During the search, officers found an illegal metal knuckle knife in the center console.

Following his arrest, Marmol was found to be in possession of 20 bags of cocaine collectively weighing about one-half of an ounce. Officers also recovered four bags containing heroin and fentanyl.

Marmol was previously convicted of attempted criminal possession of a controlled substance, robbery, and criminal sale of a controlled substance, authorities said.

Marmol will be sentenced Jan. 31.
