Lindenhurst Middle Schoolers Recognized In VFW Essay Contest

The student essays reflected the theme "What Patriotism Means to Me."

Lindenhurst Middle School students Jake Albert, Crystal Wu and Frank Farrugia were recently recognized by the Wade-Burn Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 7279, for their for their respective first-, second- and third-place winning contributions to the VFW Patriot’s Pen Essay Contests.

Each year more than 165,400 students in grades 6-8 enter the VFW’s Patriot’s Pen youth essay contest for a chance to win their share of more than $1.4 million in state and national awards.

The student essays reflected the theme, “What Patriotism Means to Me.” In his prize-winning essay, Jake stated, “I believe that everyone can and should be patriotic. If we do our part, this country can be a better place for everyone.”
