Lindenhurst Middle Student Removed After Making Verbal Threat

Police responded to the school Thursday morning after a teacher overhead the student making the threat while talking to another student.

LINDENHURST, NY - A Lindenhurst Middle School student was removed from school after making a verbal threat to another student on Thursday morning, according to the school district.

Suffolk Police responded to the school after a teacher overheard an exchange between students that included a verbal threat made by one of the students.

Police currently investigating the situation.

The student in question has been removed from class and will be disciplined according to the district’s Code of Conduct, a statement from the district read.

According to the district, there are rumors circulating throughout the community that the middle school is on lockdown which is not true.

"The school was never placed on lockdown, as the student who issued the threat was immediately removed from class," the statement read. "Please be assured that student safety is our top priority. Any threat of violence is taken extremely seriously and will be reported to the authorities. We commend the teacher who acted quickly to report the matter to school officials and continue to encourage the entire school community to report anything that might be of concern."
