LINDENHURST, NY - Lindenhurst High School senior Veronica Szygalowicz was recently recognized as a semifinalist in the 65th annual National Merit Scholarship Program.

Szygalowicz was entered into the National Merit Program by taking the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT) and now has an opportunity to continue in the competition for one of 7,600 National Merit Scholarship awards that will be offered next spring, totaling $31 million.

"My parents have always taught me the importance of hard work and discipline, and my entire family has supported me in all of my endeavors," Szygalowicz said. "I think this academic success has a lot to do with that, coupled with the fact that I am an intrinsically motivated person who likes to challenge myself and who has been fortunate to have many wonderful teachers in my life along the way. I am grateful to them all and grateful for this opportunity to advance."
